It is an infection of the feet (one or both) produced by fungi called dermatophytes.
Dermatophytes are saprophytic fungi whose only food is the keratin of the epidermis, abundant in the feet, so they grow in size for food.
The frequency of this pathology is quite high:
- It is the most common dermatophyte infection and represents over 70% of all ringworm.
- In many cases the individual does not know that carrying a contagious ringworm.
- Represents one third of all skin diseases of the foot.
- It is the third most common skin disease in children younger than 12 years and second in adults.
